Midtown adds to Blacksburg’s office and commercial space, which is a critical need in our growing community. A large firm has committed to a gateway office building with ground floor restaurant and commercial space. Several other buildings can also serve to house some of Blacksburg’s growing technology community, from startups to more established firms. Employees of midtown firms will enjoy the restaurant and retail options of downtown and may also be residents of Midtown.
Ground-floor restaurants and street-front retail will help build the commercial core needed for a strong downtown and attract visitors and residents from throughout the region. No big-box retail or retail uses requiring large surface parking lots are allowed under the proposed zoning.
Several businesses have already confirmed their intent to move to Midtown, including a hotel. Should the market for commercial space expand, Midtown will be able to accommodate it.
